ex Sydney from Dec 2010 - Pacific Pearl is a 63,500 ton superliner, the latest addition to P&O Cruises Australia fleet, sailing alongside its two existing ships, superliner Pacific Dawn and the 47,000-tonne Pacific Sun, as well as its incoming superliner, Pacific Jewel. From serving the British market as Ocean Village, she will undergo a major refurbishment before arriving in Australia.
The ship is ideally suited for young couples, singles of all ages and families, with plenty of open deck space, 2 large swimming pools, a wading pool with extensive children's and teenagers' facilities including indoor/outdoor play areas located aft. Pacific Pearl features a distinctive domed observation lounge that curves around the ships front for spectacular views. The 12 decks feature an array of entertainment venues and amenities, restaurants, bars, lounges, cinema, casino, spa, internet cafe and atrium lobby shops.
Ship History
Pacific Pearl comes from a pedigree of luxury cruise ships designed by the world-famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, and includes
Pacific Jewel as well as
Pacific Dawn which originally entered service as the Regal Princess.
Originally built for Sitmar Cruises, it was taken over by by Princess Cruises before completion and the ship entered service in 1990 as Arcadia specifically for British cruise passengers cruising the Mediterranean and Baltic. In April 2003 she was extensively refurbished and rebranded as Ocean Village with a trendy new-look designed to attract younger couples and families.
She was slightly smaller than her half-sister
Ocean Village Two (soon to become Pacific Jewel), with a similar internal layout. The ship has a good amount of ample deck space, two swimming pools and extensive children's facilities.
