Overview - MS Queen Elizabeth sails to all points of the compass out of Southampton: to the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, Baltic Sea, and across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Consider the cruise north of the Arctic Circle in June 2012 as a special opportunity. In late 2012 QE moves to the Eastern Mediterranean, and offers some attractive cruises to the Holy Land, Egypt and Black Sea. The annual world cruise in early 2012 is already booked out. The variety of cruises in her itinerary presents a great excuse for you to travel with Cunard's newest vessel.

Accommodation - QE is a near twin of Queen Victoria, with some changes: There are an additional 38 aft-facing balcony staterooms. Storage space in cabins has been expanded with bureaus under the bed that are designed for longer world voyages. The shower-only bathrooms in standard category cabins have more shelf areas for toiletries. Of the 1,046 cabins, 85 percent are outside, 71 percent come with balconies, and 12 percent are exclusive Queens/Princess Grill cabins. Altogether there are three classes of accommodation and 32 price grades, all dependant on position.

All cabins reflect conservative British decor, and come with excellent bedding, universal electrical sockets, toiletries and hairdryer. The perks and increased service of Grill-class accommodation are worth it. In a minor addition to the Grills' areas, passengers in the loftiest accommodations have use of a strategically placed pair of telescopes that provide a bird's-eye view of ports, coming or going.

Food & Dining - QE offers traditional British dining for passengers who enjoy dressing up for dinner, either in formal or semi-formal attire. Dining venues include the five-star Queens Grill and Princess Grill (comes with the stateroom), private set-table dining at any time in the Britannia Club (top Balcony staterooms), and the two-tiered 878-seat Britannia Restaurant with its sweeping staircase. Queens and Princess Grill guests have access to exclusive al fresco dining on the top deck. The Verandah, the ship's fine-dining venue, serves French cuisine with an a la carte pricing scheme that includes all service and gratuities. Those who take all courses essentially pay the same as they would for an onboard restaurant with a $30 cover charge. The 24-hour Lido Restaurant (with cover charge) offers a buffet service for breakfast and lunch, but come dinnertime, it transforms into three eateries -- Asado (South American cuisine), Aztec (Mexican cuisine) and Jasmine (Pan-Asian cuisine). At dinner the buffet station remains open and there is no additional charge. The famed Golden Lion Pub serves up English fare like fish and chips and shepherd's pie.

There is a range of magnificently presented bars and lounges available according to accommodation. Cunard host its "Supper Club" - afternoon teas, dancing, music and taster menus - in the Garden Lounge conservatory beneath its lofty domed roof. Cafe Caranthia serves special teas and pastries. For sweeping views of the bow, and a martini, the Commodore Club welcomes you. The Midships Bar with its pianist is a place for pre-dinner drinks. The Yacht Club offers cosy seating, good wine, and a dance floor.

Entertainment & Activities - In the Royal Court Theatre, with its blue and gold decor, The Queen Elizabeth Theatre Company Royal Court Theatre presents Shakespearean plays, contemporary drama, and a 60s hit musical "A Slice of Saturday Night". With its 20 private boxes (opera-house style available for an extra fee that includes Champagne, dessert and a prime view), it recalls the West End and Broadway at their best. Some shows are followed by theme parties. During the day the theatre stages a specially written panel quiz show. The two-deck-high Queens Room is one of the most beautiful rooms at sea and hosts activities from dancing and fencing lessons to costume balls and white-glove tea. Other rooms include the 6,000 title two-tier library and the Empire Casino.

The ship offers large-screen movies, cabaret acts, bands, live jazz, small combos and solo entertainers. The Cunard Royal Health Club and Spa includes a beauty salon, large gymnasium, aerobics, thermal area, relaxation area and the Pavilion Pool. The canvas-covered Games Deck harks back to the era of Brideshead Revisited with its 30s-style lawn games - English garden bowls, croquet, paddle tennis and croquet (on Astroturf). There are inside and outside areas dedicated to children ages 1-12.
